Every morning for the last month or so my 2015 A4 has been making this awful grinding noise when I first pull out of the parking spot, it's worst in first and second gear and sounds like something is seriously wrong, but then after about ten or fifteen minutes of driving it completely disappears and shifts like butter for the rest of the day. At first I tried telling myself it was just cold fluid being stubborn but the noise has been getting gradually louder and now I'm anxious every time I start the car in the morning. My neighbour who used to be a mechanic in Germany before moving here said it could be the input shaft bearing starting to fail, which apparently isn't uncommon on these boxes, but he also said diagnosing noises without opening things up is mostly guesswork. The fact that it goes away when warm gives me a tiny bit of hope that maybe a fluid change with the right spec oil could quiet it down, but I've also read that by the time you hear grinding the damage is already done. I found a shop through http://auditransmissionrepair.ae/ that seems to really understand these gearboxes and I'm planning to take it in next week, but in the meantime I'm just curious if anyone else had a grinding noise that only happened when cold and what it turned out to be in the end, was it something you could nurse along or did it need immediate attention?
